Local author Nancy Fortney and her husband Mike will share stories and visual media from their 3,100 mile bicycle journey across America, an adventure that Nancy chronicled in her book, Hard Fun. At the end of the program she and Mike will answer questions from those interested in getting started in cycle touring and Nancy will be on hand to sign books available for purchase.

I loved reading your book and felt like I was riding along with you on your journey. It was fun to meet the people and experience the Southern culture in your eyes. Just a good story told so well and quite a personal accomplishment. Hard fun but nice work!
What a wild ride! Even in my heyday I couldn’t have pulled this off, so I especially enjoyed the “easy fun” provided by Nancy’s expert storytelling. Cyclists and non-cyclists alike will appreciate her narrative on the route; the food; the people; the insights; and the perseverance. Kudos on the book and on this fabulous adventure.
I loved Nancy's frank descriptions of the highs and lows of their trip; of the great beauty of our country, and the kindness and welcoming they encountered by strangers along the way. Nancy is such a great storyteller, that it is hard to put this book down.

A very enjoyable read! I felt like I was the invisible companion on Mike and Nancy's cross-country bike trip. Nancy creates an interesting mix of travel log, local history, local cuisine, and interesting characters they met along the way. One heck of an adventure.

Loved this book! It captured the crazy, on-the-road, travels through the southern tier of this country and brought local history, local landscapes, weather, local personalities, and national issues together in one well written book. I felt I was riding right beside her!
I'm particularly fond of the chapters when they ride through Louisiana and the woman who operated the campground they stayed at. So many interesting people out there.
I thoroughly enjoyed making this cross-country trek with Nancy and Mike. This fun book captures all the elements of their adventure, from the geography, history and awesome scenery to the blow-outs, bumpy roads and bad weather. Nancy writes beautifully about the emotional and physical aspects of this trip, and the characters they met, relaying throughout a hopeful message of our common humanity. (Also, I found myself craving fried chicken, crawdads, gas station hamburgers and grits!)
Cant say enough about how much i enjoyed reading this adventure. Even the history kept me engrossed.
I enjoyed Hard Fun very much. I especially liked the local history and the captivating landscapes, as well as the interesting characters encountered along the way. Most of all, I
appreciate the life affirming perspective of the story.
Great stuff Mom! So many amazing stories wrapped up in this book, and I really liked the message at the end and the fact that the message tied everything together. I cannot believe you wrote a book. Incredible! Well done!!!
Got to read for 3 hrs as Mike , sister Mary and fly to west coast for a “short” bike ride of 400 miles or so. Riding is often about the people you meet and this book made me feel like I met everyone on their trip. A great inspiration!
